Indian fiancé minister Arun Jaitley inaugurated an exhibition on the Coin and currency of India in the Great Hall of North Block. The exhibition was organized by the Department of Expenditure Ministry of Finance. This exhibition depicts how money has changed in appearance and substance and evolved from barter to coins to the present day bank notes and e-money. The exhibition presents a brief history of the Great Hall as well.


Govt. made it clear that PPF fund will not be taxed on withdrawal. Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said in a statement that only the interest that accrues on contributions to EPF made after 1st April this year will be taxed while principal will continue to remain tax exempt. Mr. Adhia said that 40% of the interest accrued on contributions made after 1st April will be tax exempted and remaining 60% % will be taxed. 60% tax withdrawal will affect less than one fifth of employees with high salaries.

In Bangladesh, the Reserve Bank Governor Atiur Rahman has resigned following a $ 80 millions cyber theft from the bank;s Reserve Fund account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Atiur Rahman who has been the Reserve Bank governor for the second term resigned during a meeting with the PM Sheikh Hasina. Unknown hackers breached the computer systems of Bangladesh Bank on 04 February and wire transferred around $ 80 million from the Bank;s Reserve Fund with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to accounts of several casinos in Philippines and Sri Lanka.


India remained dominated on the final day of the South Asian Games as they ended the tournament as champions for the 12th consecutive time after baggin a total 308 medals. Sri Lanla finished the tournament at the second spot with 186 medals and on the third position Pakistan with a final tally of 106 medals. Sikh hockey player honored in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Assistant deputy speacker of the B.C Legislature MLA Raj Chouhan honoured 92 year old Indian field hockey legend Balbir Singh in the house. He won 3 Olympic gold medals in field hockey. The First in 1948 in London winning India;s first gold medal as a sovereign nation. He won the second gold in Helsinki.


Indian Cricketer Rohit Sharma won the prestigious Maruti Suzuki ESPN Cricinfo award for the third year in a row with recently – retired Black Caps legend Brendon McCullum winning the newly constituted Captain of the Year award. US astronaut Scott Kelly and cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko returned to Earth after spending almost a year un space in a ground breaking experiment foreshadowing a potential manned mission to Mars.
